It's hard to believe that it's been 60 years since Pontiac unleashed their GTO on an unsuspecting public, firing what most enthusiasts agree to be the first shot in what became known as the "muscle car wars". By dropping their full-size 389 ci V8 into an affordable intermediate, Pontiac produced a car with a favorable power-to-weight ratio that younger buyers wanted desperately and could afford with an average job. Today most serious collectors have at least 1 GTO because it was the progenitor of the muscle car. This stunning Verdoro Green (47) 1970 GTO is such a car, a magnificent and heavily optioned example that recently arrived from a large, multi-million dollar collection.
