1989 Jeep Wrangler Laredo â?" Black over Tan, 4.2L Inline-Six, 5-Speed Manual, Clean Undercarriage Why This Car Is Special The 1989 Jeep Wrangler Laredo occupies a specific and increasingly valuable place in the YJ generation's history. The YJ ran from 1987 through 1995, and by 1989 Jeep had sorted out most of the early production wrinkles. The Laredo was the top trim level for most of the YJ's production run, positioned above the base S and the mid-grade Sport. It brought with it a longer list of comfort and convenience features that made it genuinely livable day-to-day, while the underlying hardware remained every bit as capable off-road as any other Wrangler of the era. The 4.2-liter AMC inline-six in this truck is worth discussing on its own.
