Built between 1975 and 1977 in the US (starting in 1973 in Canada), the Pontiac Astre was essentially a rebadged Chevrolet Vega. The subcompact Astre had considerably better trim, which cost extra on the Vega, but otherwise there was not a lot of differences. The 1977 Astre had the option to upgrade the aluminum block 4 cylinder engine to a cast-iron block, which really was a big improvement to the often plagued aluminum version.
